Application Details!!!
📌 How to Apply (and Actually Stand Out)?
We’re not just looking for another
social media manager. We’re looking for someone who gets it—someone who
sees social media as a tool for building influence, fostering
credibility, and sparking intelligent conversations. If that sounds
like you, here's how to show us:
Step 1: Craft a Thoughtful Application Email
Send us an email that doesn’t feel
like a mass-apply message. Use the subject line:
“Application for Social Media Manager – Journalist Brand”
Your email should include:
- Your full name and contact information
(don’t forget your time zone!)
- A brief but personal introduction about who
you are and why this role excites you.
- A PDF resume or link to your online
portfolio.
- Links to social media accounts or brands you’ve
managed—we’d love to see your work in the wild.
- (Optional but highly encouraged) A quick
audit or analysis of a journalist’s social media presence—this shows
us you think strategically.
Pro tip: We care more about
thoughtful insight than perfection. If your audit or message makes us think,
that’s already a win.
Step 2: The Content & Strategy Challenge (Shortlisted Applicants Only)
If your application resonates with
us, we’ll invite you to complete a short strategy task. Don’t worry—it’s
designed to showcase your brains, not busywork.
You might be asked to:
- Outline a mini strategy for LinkedIn or X
(Twitter).
- Pitch 2–3 content ideas that a journalist
could post this week.
- Provide a sample caption or short-form video
concept based on a real-world news event or media trend.
This step helps us see how you
think creatively and critically.
Step 3: Let’s Talk – Virtual Interview
Think of this more as a
conversation than a grilling. During the call, we’ll chat about:
- Your approach to social storytelling in a
fast-paced media landscape.
- How you balance neutrality, voice, and
engagement.
- Your preferred tools, workflows, and what
gets you excited in the digital world.
- And, most importantly, whether this collaboration
feels like a great match for both of us.
Step 4: Paid Trial & Onboarding
If we’re vibing and aligned, you’ll
move into:
- A 1-week paid trial (we believe in fair
compensation from Day 1).
- You’ll receive a content style guide and
access to our Buffer.ai scheduling platform.
- After that, you’ll be fully onboarded, introduced
to the broader content calendar, and we’ll start shaping something
meaningful together.
🧠 Bonus Tips for Applicants:
- Don’t be afraid to show personality, but
remember the brand tone should be intelligent, neutral, and culturally
aware.
- Stay on top of current events—we might even
ask your take on something that just broke in the headlines.
- If you’ve ever built a brand or voice from
scratch, tell us about it—it’s pure gold.
